(i)The count and turnover (£'000s) of VAT and/or PAYE based enterprises in the UK in UK SIC Class 4751 -retail sale of textiles and Class 4782 - retail sale via stalls and markets of textiles, clothing and footwear. An Enterprise is the smallest combination of legal units (generally based on VAT and/or PAYE records) which has a certain degree of autonomy within an Enterprise Group. An individual site (for example a factory or shop) in an enterprise is called a local unit. Turnover provided to the ONS for the majority of traders is based on VAT returns for a 12 month period. For 2020 this relates to a 12 month period covering the financial year 2018/2019. Turnover data should be used with caution as they are derived mainly from administrative sources which ONS is unable to validate.
